Description
Kay Rasmus Nielsen (1886 –1957) was a Danish illustrated whose work was popular in the early 20th century. These are a selection of images, 25 color plates and more than 21 monotone images, he created for the children’s collection East of the Sun and West of the Moon published in 1922.
Nielsen only worked at Disney for four years from 1937 to 1941, but in that time he was art director on Fantasia (1940) “A Night on Bald Mountain/Ave Maria” and did visual development on The Little Mermaid, which would not be used until the film went into production and was released in 1989.
